William J. Granus, 78, of Fallowfield Twp., passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009. A son of the late Paul Sr. and Mary (Nagle) Granus, he was born January 12, 1931 in Bentleyville. He was a U.S. Army veteran who proudly served during the Korean War. Bill retired as a blast furnace foreman from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen plant. He was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church and F&AM Lodge No. 615, both in Charleroi, and American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville. Survivors include his wife, Julia; one son, Mark, of Reading, PA; grandsons, Jacob and Andrew Granus; one granddaughter, Nicole Granus; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Belle Menendez, Lillian Granus, and Sara and Floyd Matthews; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Paul Jr., Samson, and Eli Granus; and two sisters, Frances Burton and Gloria Schwab. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., Charleroi, where a Panihida service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Orthodox Church with the Rev. Gregory Peterson officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Charleroi Cemetery.
