Verda Hodge, 95, of Roscoe, formerly of Connellsville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2013. A daughter of the late Dallas and Elizabeth Austin Herring, she was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Aurora, NC. She was a member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hodge was active for many years in the Parent Teacher Association; was on the state and county election board for Roscoe for 16 years; and was a longtime member of the Roscoe Civic Club. Mrs. Hodge is survived by a son, Harold Hodge Jr., with whom she resided; a sister, Thelma Sharpe, of Wilson, NC; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Paula Hart, Sharon Kuchera, Lucy Kondrak and Connie DeLuca. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hodge Sr., in 1984; her daughter, Joyce Hodge, in 2005; a brother, Guy Herring; and sisters, Agnes Larimore and Sally Langley. Friends will be received Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Sandra Conti presiding. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
