Thomas A. Sedlak, 70, of Coal Center, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, after a lengthy illness in Allegheny General Hospital. A son of Helen Russell Sedlak and the late George Sedlak, he was born Oct. 21, 1941, in Coal Center. Tom was a member of the Howe United Methodist Church and was on the board of directors at Howe Cemetery. He retired after many years of employment from SuperValu where he worked as a mechanic. Tom liked to hunt and fish, work in his garden, cut grass and to just putts around in his garage. Left to cherish the many wonderful memories of Tom are his wife of 37 years, Grace Johnston Sedlak; daughters, Shawn Palfrey, of Coal Center, and Dawn Futrell and her husband, William, of Richlands, N.C.; sons, Jimmy DeZardo, of Coal Center, and Robert DeZardo, of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Brandy, Brandon and Sarah DeZardo, Ashley Petix, Britanee Petix Marshburn, Tyler Palfrey and Joshua Asberry; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Helen Sedlak; and sister, Janice Haschets. He was preceded in death by his father, George Sedlak, who died June 26, 2006. Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Kent Lighthall presiding. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery, Coal Center.
