Steve L. Buraczewski, 85, of Stroal Acres, passed away peacefully in Havencrest Nursing Center on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011. Born in Charleroi on July 13, 1925, he was a son of the late Mike and Ida (Stankovitch) Buraczewski. An Army veteran, he served with Company C 216th Armored Engineer Battalion in the southern Philippines during World War II. Mr. Buraczewski worked for over 30 years for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, where he retired as a shearman. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and American Legion Post 801, in Roscoe; Arden Calvert VFW Post 167 and the Tenth Street Athletic Club of Charleroi, where he served as president for over 30 years; and the Polish National Alliance in Monessen. Left to cherish the many memories are his wife, Andree "Dee Dee" (Mitis) Buraczewski; a daughter, Susan Battistone, of Greensburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve Jr. and Linn Buraczewski, of Greensburg; five grandchildren, Adam and Julie Buraczewski, Jennifer Weisner, and husband, Tim, and Bernadette and Crystal Battistone; two great-grandchildren, Bethany and Emily Weisner; a brother, Edward Buraczewski, of Monessen; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremiah Battistone; his brothers, Charles and Mike Buraczewski; his sisters, Mary Brandenberg, Helen Grusva, and Francis Smalling; and his first wife, Eleanor (Philipkosky) Buraczewski. Friends will be received Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the MELENYZER-DuBARR FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a blessing service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 9:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. George Moneck presiding. Interment, with full military honors presented by American Legion Post 801, will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center. American Legion Post 801 will conduct a service in the funeral home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
