Private funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, for Robert J. Bailey, 77, of Elco, who passed away on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born in Roscoe on Aug. 4, 1935, he was the son of the late John and Mary Bailey. Bob was a member of the Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in Charleroi. He was also a member of the Roscoe and California Gun clubs and enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing and going to the mountains. For many years he played soccer for Roscoe and softball for the Charleroi Vets, California Eagles and Roscoe. Bob worked in the coal draw section of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, from where he retired after 41 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Martha L. Lawson Bailey of Elco; a daughter, Debi Doctorick and husband, Dave, of Belle Vernon; a son, John Bailey and wife, JoAnn, of Coal Center; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Dana Doctorick of Belle Vernon, Nicole Doctorick of Baltimore, Md., and David "D.J." Doctorick of Belle Vernon; a sister, Betty Reale and husband, Angelo; a brother-in-law, George Lawson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Diane Lynn Bailey, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Frank Scrip and Ann and Frank Hazuka, a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Alexandria Bailey, and sister-in-law, Carole Lawson. Arrangements were entrusted to the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, 823 Meadow Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022.
