Nancy Jane Police, 72, formerly of Monongahela, passed peacefully on August 20, 2008 in Monongahela Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born June 12, 1936 in Perryopolis, a daughter of the late Stephen and Rose Ceto Vargo. Nancy was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi and a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. As a daughter of Hungarian emigrants, she was instilled with strong work ethics having grown up on a farm in Perryopolis with nine siblings. She spent her life serving the public in various supermarkets in the Valley, the most recent as department manager for the former Shop 'n Save in Charleroi. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Charlie Zemko, of Atlanta, Ga., and Maryrose and Jose L. Madrid, of Vienna, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Kim Olsavick, of Hollidaysburg; four grandchildren, Jocelyn and Charlie Zemko and Katelynn and Hollynn Olsavick; two step children, Diane Anthony and John Police Jr.; one step granddaughter, Elizabeth Anthony; four sisters, Margaret Hazy, Grace Estok and Lydia Obelietner, all of Perryopolis, and Charlotte Bilohlavek, of Stat Junction; one brother, Sonny Vargo, of Ohio; her former husband, Rudolph Olsavick, of Monongahela; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Bertha Grimplin and Irene Vargo; two brothers, Oliver and Alfred Vargo; and her former husband, John A. Police Sr. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi (724-483-2231). Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church with the Rev. David Dzermejko officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
