Mildred Shrum, 87, of California, passed away unexpectedly in her residence on Monday, August 1, 2011. Born on April 10, 1924 in Belle Vernon, she was a daughter of the late Mike and Anna Puhac Zlatovich. Mildred always enjoyed playing cards and, for many years worked at California University of Pennsylvania as a custodian, but was more known for working at the voting polls on Election Day for over 40 years. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed by her children, Ronald Shrum and wife, Grace, of Rahway, NJ, Lloyd Shrum and wife, Dorothy, of Warren, OH, Rodney Shrum and partner, John Gamble, of Bridgeville, Lois Tice of Mays Landing, NJ, Nicholas Shrum of Hampstead, NC, Joyce Shrum-Teich of Rostraver Twp., and James Shrum, with whom she resided; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Nicholas Zlatovich; daughter-in-law, Judy Shrum of the state of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Franklin Shrum, in 1991; a son, Eugene Raymond Shrum; a grandson, Ronald Shrum, Jr.; a sister, Mary Leithold, and a brother, Steve Pehnec. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Candace Cook presiding. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Because of their extensive loss from the fire, the family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, monetary donations be made to James Shrum, c/o Cal Ed Federal Credit Union, 100 Technology Drive, California, PA, 15419.
