Mary Schwab, of Stockdale, after celebrating her 100th birthday and fulfilling an active, productive life, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2008. She was born May 23, 1908 in Stockdale, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Matsko Petruschak. Mary was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church of Charleroi, the Ladies Altar Society, the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and several card clubs. As the oldest resident, born and raised in Stockdale and the last member of the immediate Petruschak family, Mary was a good friend, good neighbor and an idol to many. Survivors include two devoted sons, John Schwab Jr., of Steubenville, Ohio, and Edward G. Schwab, of Stockdale; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Schwab, in October 1966; one daughter, Elaine Nipaver; two granddaughters, Eileen and Anita Nipaver; five brothers, George Bobschok and Mike, John, Charles and Paul Petruschak; and one sister, Julia Bobschok Kander. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held Monday, August 11, at 10 a.m. with Father James Ragan officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
