Mary M. Davis, 98, of Elco, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late John and Josephine Kweder Komer, she was born September 30, 1912, in Coal Center. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Roscoe where she served as vice-president of the Ladies Guild and also on the Rosary Society. For many years Mary could be found working in the kitchen at St. Joe's where she would volunteer to cook and bake for the many fundraisers and bingo's held there. When not volunteering at the church she enjoyed baking cookies and cakes and sharing them with her friends and neighbors. Left to cherish the many memories of Mary is her two sons; Jim Davis of Tamaqua, PA and David J. Davis and his wife, Patricia, of Charleroi; a daughter, Cheryl Davis Coleman and her husband, Ted, of Silverthorne, CO; her grandchildren, Dr. Michael Davis and wife, Annette, Christi Davis, Megan Blitzer and husband, Brian, Ted P. Coleman and fiancAC., Jenny, Christopher Davis and wife, Lisa, and Catherine (Katie) Davis, PhD, and her significant other, Peter Takacs; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin E. Davis, who passed away Dec. 19, 2004, and three brothers and five sisters. Mary was the last survivor of the Komer family. Friends will be received Thursday, June 23, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 24, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church with Rev. George Moneck officiating. Interment will follow in Howe Cemetery, Coal Center.
