John "Buzzy" F. Scrip, Sr

Surrounded by his loving family, John F. "Buzzy" Scrip Sr., 77, of Roscoe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2013. A son of the late John and Margaret Schneider Scrip, he was born May 10, 1935, in Roscoe. He proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Buzzy retired after 40 years of employment from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport plant, where he last worked in the Met Lab as a metallurgist. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Slovak Beneficial Society, American Legion Post No. 801, all in Roscoe, and was a life member of the Roscoe Sportsman's Association in Coal Center. Buzzy loved fishing, which was apparent to those who knew him because of his frequent family fishing trips to Arkansas and spending his summers up with his fishing buddies at Camp Run a Muck. He was known as a very caring and compassionate person who took great pride in caring for his immediate and extended family. Left to cherish the many wonderful memories of Buzzy are his daughter, Rene Pascoe and husband, Bob, of Stockdale; son, John F. Scrip Jr., of Roscoe; sister, Mitzi Hughes and husband, Robert; brothers, Bill Scrip and wife, Darla, Herb Scrip and wife, Joanne, and Charles "Butch" Scrip and wife, Diane; granddaughter, Tayla Pascoe; special friend, Veronica Beckwith and husband, Don; and numerous nieces, nephews great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Bandini on Dec. 15, 2009. Family and friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe. Translation prayers will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Zavage presiding. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. American Legion services will be provided by Post No. 801 at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to Amedisys Hospice, 100 Stoops Dr., Monongahela, PA 15063.
