John P. Onisko, 59, of Roscoe, died suddenly Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009. He was born March 7, 1950, in New Eagle, a son of the late Michael Onisko Sr. and Marie Moravitz Onisko Burns. He was Greek Orthodox by faith, a member of the Roscoe American Legion Post 801, a former member of the Roscoe Slovak Club, and a former employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant. John was a veteran of the Vietnam War, an avid hunter and enjoyed attending motocross races with his boys. Survivors include three children and his ex-wife, Johnny Patrick Onisko of West Brownsville, Steven Willis Onisko of Roscoe, Tania Ann Onisko Slother (Shane) of Marienville, Pa., and JoAnne Walker Onisko of Roscoe; two grandchildren, Hannah JoAnne Slother and Samuel John Slother; a brother, Mike Onisko Jr. of Franklinville, N.Y.; a niece, Aimee Onisko McCloy, and nephew, Michael Onisko, both of Roscoe; and one aunt, Margaret Moravitz Berdak of Hyattsville, Md. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alyssa Ann Slother, who passed away Sept. 23, 2008, at the age of three. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the MELENYZER-DUBARR FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. American Legion service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with funeral service Friday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. with Father James Ragan officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
