have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. John Edward Guzzi, 69, of Stockdale, surrounded by his loving family, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 7, 2008, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Allenport, a son of the late James and Mary Rohaly Guzzi. He was a member of Holy Ghost Eastern Catholic Church of Charleroi, a member of the Roscoe American Legion, Post 801, the Roscoe Sportsman's Club and a life member of the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department. He served with the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Darlene Polonoli Guzzi; two daughters, Dana Lynn McCann and special son-in-law Charlie McCann, of Stockdale, and Dawn Marie Patitucci of McDonald; four grandchildren: Shayne and Kaitlyn McCann, of Stockdale and Dominic and Anthony Patitucci, of McDonald; one brother, George (Red) Guzzi and wife, Joyce, of Allenport; one godchild, Mark Simala; numerous nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law; William (Emma) Polonoli, of Monongahela, Robert (Shirley) Polonoli of Finleyville, Catherine (James) Bavuso, of Rostraver Township, a very special sister-in-law, Barbara (George) Gallick, of Monongahela, and a very special hunting and fishing buddy, Butch Simala, of Stockdale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Marie Guzzi; a sister, Mary Ann Huber; and a brother, James S. Guzzi Jr. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 9, in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., Roscoe, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with American Legion services at 7:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11, at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. in Holy Ghost Eastern Catholic Church in Charleroi with Father James Ragan as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Ghost Eastern Catholic Church of Charleroi or the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Dept.
