Jack L. Jones 87 of Roscoe, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Janet Mathewson Jones on September 28, 2015 after a lengthy illness. The youngest of 5 children born to Thomas Jefferson and Katherine Huffstickle Jones on December 22, 1927 at Magee Women's Hospital. A life long resident of the Mon Valley , he called Roscoe his home where he and Janet raised their 2 children. He served as a Corporal during WWII in the 29th Engineering Battalion in the Philippines. Upon returning from the war, he was given an opportunity in the car industry and became a top salesman for Chevrolet in various dealerships throughout the Mon Valley. He retired from the former B. Bogdewic Chevrolet in Bentleyville in 1995. He was a long-standing member of the Roscoe Presbyterian Church where he and his wife served faithfully during their 38 years of marriage. He was a member of the Roscoe American Legion Post #801 where he served as Chaplain for many years. A member of the Tri County #252, Past Worshipful Master Gummert Lodge in 1962 and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge as of 2006. Mr. Jones also loved Kennywood and was a long standing member of the Roscoe Community Kennywood Picnic Committee. Surviving are 2 children, David and wife Lynn Jones of Belle Vernon and Carol and husband Buddy Badeau of Colorado Springs, CO. Jack is the proud grandfather of 4 grandsons, Brandon, Austin, Matthew and Taylor, enough for a Steeler defensive line... oh how he loved his Steelers. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Roscoe Jones, Thomas Jones, Elizabeth Aiello, and Miriam Windsor. Our heartfelt thanks to our family, the staff at the Center in the Woods and the residents of The Oaks, the wonderful staff of Mon Valley Hospital, Three Rivers Hospice and the staff at Justine's Personal Care Home. Finally a special thank you to Dr. Shah and Dr. Jane... we could not have asked for better care and concern for our Dad.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 30 from 6-8pm and Thursday October 1 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Melenyzer Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc. 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. Funeral services will be held on Friday Oct. 2 at 9:00am at the Roscoe Presbyterian Church with Rev. Candace Cook presiding. Interment will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Fayette City. The Rosoce American Legion Post #801 will conduct services in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm followed by Masonic services at 7:30 pm.
