Irene Podany

After a brief illness, Irene Podany, 86, of Stockdale, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. A daughter of the late Michael and Sophia Iczkowski Seftas, she was born December 10, 1924, in Stockdale. Irene enjoyed making crafts and sewing, and took great pride in the appearance of her home and yard. Her greatest joy was spending quality time with the special children in her life. She especially enjoyed being a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Left to cherish her many memories are a daughter, Wendy Lee and husband, David, of Carroll Twp; a son, William Podany and wife, Pam, of Roscoe; two granddaughters, Melissa Stewart and husband, Jason, and Amanda Calcek and husband, Josh; great-grandchildren Thais Irene, Reid, and Reese; her sisters, Margaret "Peg" Lacey and Stella Kalamotousis; her special neighbors; her unofficially adopted son, Mike Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William "Wingy" Podany, who passed away December 19, 2006; her brothers, John, Gus, and George Seftas; and a sister, Agnes Seftas Collins. Friends will be received Friday, July 1, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a funeral service will be held Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
