Betty Lea Ward

Betty Lea Ward, 87 of Roscoe, died Saturday May 24, 2014 at Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born February 13, 1927 in Charleroi, a daughter of John R. and Margaret Rebecca Griffith Ward. Betty was the owner of Union Cleaners in Roscoe from 1956 to 2008. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Roscoe. Ms. Ward organized and directed the church choir for several years which was comprised of many young people of the church. Ms. Ward loved puzzles, woodworking, playing the harmonica and piano and especially loved singing church hymns. She most of all loved her Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Surviving are a niece and nephew, Bertha Jean Bilsky of Roscoe and William Sommerville of Orlando, FL, great nieces and nephews, John Bilsky, Dana Thompson, Kellie Speck, Lauren Wright and Lenore Milleson. Also several great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters, Alexander, John, James, Ammon and William Ward, Bertha Sommerville, and Viola and Pearl Ward. Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 27, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 in the Melenyzer Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc. 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe. Additional visitation will be on Wednesday May 28, 2014 from 10-11am at The Church of Jesus Christ, Roscoe. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am with Elder James Abbott officiating. Internment will follow at Howe Cemetery, Long Branch.
