Barbara Anne Popelas

Barb(DiFilippo)Popelas, passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the age of 65, surrounded by her immediate family.

Barb Popelas was born to the late Philip and Margaret DiFilippo of Rosoce, PA on November 29, 1956. She was a member of St Joseph’s Church in Roscoe before becoming a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Charleroi. Barb was a life-long member of her “Card Club”. While she did work outside the home at Mon Valley Hospital for 27 years, her true passion was being a mom and gram. She found joy in raising her children, spending time with family and friends, and making others laugh. Her laugh was contagious and her wit was a gift. Barb was a loving wife, mother, “Gram" to her grandchildren, and genuine friend to so many.

Barb is survived by her husband, Andrew H, Popelas; son Andrew J. Popelas (wife Jennifer) of Charleroi, PA, daughter Chaley R. Knight of Waynesburg, PA, and Adam Knight of Waynesburg, PA. Also survived by her 4 beloved grandchildren, Christian Popelas, Chatham, Oliver, and Simon Knight and her eldest brother Anthony DiFilippo (wife Karen) of Florida. Preceded in death by her brothers, Philip, John, and James DiFilippo; and her youngest daughter Lindsey Marie Popelas.

Barb was a pillar of strength within her family and her absence will always be felt. Barb’s family has peace knowing the JOY she is now experiencing as she has been reunited with her sweet Lindsey (daughter).

Visitation will be held on Thursday April 7, 2022 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Melenyzer Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc. 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 8th at 10:00am at St. Andrew the Apostle Church Charleroi with Rev. Gerald Mikonis as celebrant. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Twp..

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lindsey Marie Memorial Scholarship through California University of Pennsylvania.

Guestbook

Barb (or Gertie, as I called her) was a wonderful person. We met through cheerleading and my husband graduated HS with her. She will always be a part of my memories and will be greatly missed. Remember all the good times.
