Anthony Zielensky

Anthony "Tony" Zielensky 95, of Roscoe passed away peacefully at The Residence at Hilltop on, April 7, 2021. Tony was born on May 5, 1925 he was the son of the late John and Aleksandra Zielensky.

Tony "Guns" Zielensky was a Navy veteran who served in World War II on the Landing Craft Support 114 where he oversaw the ship's weapons and was the ships barber. In 1943 Anthony joined the military with his late brothers Chester (Navy), John (Army), and Bill (Army Air Corps), He joined the United States Navy where he was overseas for 18 months before heading to Okinawa. During the battle in Okinawa Tony survived a kamikaze attack. Tony was in port on ship and was able to watch the signing of the Peace Treaty. After returning to Roscoe in April of1946, he started working at Corning Glass, where he worked for 43 years and later would work the maintenance man for the Elco Borough. When Tony wasn't working, he was an avid gardener, enjoyed Friday night Bingo with his wife and spending time with and helping his family and friends. He was a member and the last WWII veteran of the Roscoe American Legion Post #801 and a member of the Roscoe Slovak Club.

Besides his 3 brothers, he was also preceded in death by his sister Jenny, a grandson Robert and son-in-law Frank. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mary and their daughters Mary Lou (Francis) Stein, Barbara (Robert) Stein, Susie Link, and Ellen (Jeffrey) Pritchard and his grandchildren Tammy Stein, Michele (Charlie) Tyhonas, Amy Molish, Toni (Richard) Bevan, Jenny (Justin)Fuchick, Dana (Richard) Simko, David (Jill) Stein, Ron (Lori) Link, Scott (Jennifer) Link, Kristen (Ron) Harp, Stacy (Josh) Jackson, Heather Link, Rachael Link, Jeffrey (Marlene) Pritchard, Amanda (Stephen) Fetsko and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday April 9, 2021 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Melenyzer Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc. 1008 Furlong Ave., Roscoe where funeral services will begin at 10:00am on Saturday April 10th with Pastor Brian Carroll presiding. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center. Military Honors will be accorded by the US Navy Honor Guard and the Roscoe American Legion Post #801. The Roscoe American Legion Post #801 will hold services in the funeral home on Friday at 7:00pm.
