Anthony "Tony" Niro, 86, of Speers Hill , Charleroi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Feb. 8, 1925, in Castelbottaccio, Italy, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Leonilda DeOto Niro. Mr. Niro was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church in Charleroi and for many years was the owner and operator of Tony's Barber Shop in Penn Hills. He was employed with the Mon Valley Health Center as site manager and driver for area senior citizens. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his three granddaughters who were his pride and joy. Left to cherish the many memories is his loving wife and best friend Antoinette Merola Niro, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage on October 27, 2011; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Karen Niro, of Rostraver Twp.; granddaughters Joelle, Jocelyn and Jillian Niro; sister-in-law Carmela Rihn of Boston, Mass.; brother-in-law Andrew and wife Tilda Merola, of Penn Hills; niece Lisa McCrosson and husband, Chuck, of Boston, Mass.; niece Melissa Penkrot and husband, Vince, of Penn Hills; nephew Mark Merola, of Penn Hills; great niece and nephews, Charlie and Sara McCrosson and Nicholas Penkrot; first cousin Joe DeOto of Las Vegas, NV; and many nieces and nephews in Italy and South America. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Raffaele, Mario and Aurino Niro; sister, Carmela Niro; and brother-in-law, Jim Rihn. Family and friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc., 825 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi, where prayers will be recited on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of the Church with Rev. Gerald S. Mikonis officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
