John Bernard Schaum 83 of Charleroi, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 9, 2019. Born in N. Charleroi on December 27, 1935, a son of Charles and Mary Hiesler Schaum. He was Catholic by faith. John grew up in Charleroi and joined the US Army Airforce in the late 1950's and became a military air police. When he returned from the service he served as a policeman for 8 years in Roscoe and Allenport. John was a wonderful baseball coach. He had formerly owned the Central Cafe in Ellwood City, worked for American Finance and retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Allenport.

After retirement he drove cars for C. Harper. John was a past president for Allenport Rod & Gun Club and Naomi Athletic Club in Fayette City. He was also a member of the Belle Vernon Russian Club and the Belle Vernon American Legion Post # 659. John was an avid golfer and loved cutting grass on his John Deer tractor and finishing up with a Coors Lite. He was warm hearted with a fire cracker spirit and a true gentleman.

John is survived by his long time companion Mary Strong, and his 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law; John and Linda Schaum of Allenport, Barry and Bonnie Schaum of Finleyville, Brian Schaum of Allenport and Carl and Shelly Schaum of Mt. Lebanon, 8 grandchildren Justin and wife Glenda, Adam and wife Valerie, Kacey, Breanne, Blake, Brian, Kylie and Graydon, and 3 great-grandchildren; Vera, Isaac and Payton. Also surviving is Mary's daughter Renee Strong, and Mary's grandchildren and great grandchild; Marina, Jessika, Stormy and Arjuna. John was preceded in death by his grandson Barry Ryan Schaum, a brother Charles Schaum and 2 sisters Maryanne Hazy and Patricia Bachetti.

Visitation will be held on Friday January 11, 2019 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Melenyzer Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Inc. 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi where a funeral blessing will take place on Saturday January 12 at 10:00am with Rev. James Bump officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Twp.
